Sorry guys....need Vag-Com help *Now with codes*
« on: 13 April 2010, 19:37 »
Right, i've got the 'not revving past 5000rpm' prob. Got my vag-com lead today, installed the drivers, plugged it into the car.....clicked 'test for ODBII compatibility' and it came back saying that my car is NOT ODBII compatible?!

It's a 97 2.0 8v....I would have thought it was ODBII? Anyone got any suggestions?

I'm sat outside in the car right now so if anyone has instructions I can try them now!

Scrap that....i was being a tard! However everytime i try and scan the program keeps crashing

Can you just try and scan engine by itself or does it crash?

the first fault code is the crank sensor, but it must have came up because the engine was switched off.

the second code is the hall sender, could be a faulty sensor or the engines timing could be 1 tooth out, check the timing, if not then look at the condition of the hall wires, then replace the hall sender.

Cheers Cable....your right about the 1st code, when i ran the vag-com again with the engine running it disappeared. I'll check the timing tomorrow, what kind of thing would cause the timing to be out??

has it always been limited to 5000 rpm? or just recently started to happen? have you had the belt changed recently?

belts dont really jump between the teeth unless the belt is incorrectly tensioned and engine is spun backwards.

if you are going to check the timing do it with the marks on the flywheel, i think there is a thread somewhere that explains.

It's only just happened, belt hasn't been changed recently (not in the last 20k miles).

When I was driving it last week I had the following prob; for a second the revs dropped and the car jerked, almost like I had tapped the brakes, it did that a few times then started running ok....but ever since its been restricted to 5k rpm

Think the 2 are related??

Yeah cleared all the codes, took it for a spin, wouldn't go past 5000rpm, ran vagcom again and code still there!
