James tell them not bother cleaning the car, you will do it yourself unless you want swirl marks on the paintwork????

Good shout!  The only downside to that is I wouldn't be able to see any imperfections in the car when its filthy until I clean it.  Once its out of the showroom I'll probably be held responsible for any damage!

A lot of what they do for PDI had already been done a week or so ago when i looked at the car

There was a note on the inside of the windscreen to say not touch the paint for a day or so.

Heres a list of wha sort of happens for the PDI.

Does that mean they had some paint work done?

Thanks, most of you

The paint thing seems to be an issue  -  does carbon grey suffer from swirl marks to a lesser or greater extent than some of the other colours? Should I really tell the dealer not to clean the car? What do dealerships do wrong during the cleaning which puts these swirls on the car?

They use gunslingers for valeting cars in veraious dealerships across the country, some of the work is atrocious ( like sweeping brand new car's with sweeping brushes to get the snow off them) I asked the dealership to leave my car alone and not to touch the paintwork, which they respected. The carbon grey does show up swirls marks easly & scratches?? But its a very nice colour though!!

James:

As Steve has said, they are really very careless when they clean a car. Dark colours show swirl marks more. On Sunday, I saw a new 3 door Golf GTi in flat black. It was the same age as my car and it was a terrible mess with massive swirl marks on the bonnet and everywhere else. The owner was pretty furious as he had given the car for washing and ended up with the swirling mess. Same thing has happened to Gizzy. Her's is pearl black.
Another thing I noticed about his car was the terrible bonnet alignment.

My red car, thankfully, is so far swirlless and the Toughseal has helped hugely.

Check your car in sunlight and if you are unhappy, make them redo it. A brand new car must be swirlless. At least your metallic paint is tougher than my flat red.

Oh. Check the bonnet is aligned perfectly in all planes.

All the best.
