Just a quick question. Has anyone had problems with the stereo in their mk5. My stereo will turn on but there is no volume. Any suggestions ? Duffer.

Not the same car but at work the other day i had a a4 in and everything worked on the headunit but no sound like you say and the control unit for it was in the boot area and at some point the rear washer pipe had come off and leaked water onto the unit and anyway as water likes to do over time it corroded a few of the pins and they had snaped off where the block connector goes on not sure if mk5 golfs have this set up  :undecided:

After two days of no sound the volume has decided to work again. I think a trip to VW is needed . Cheers anyway. Duffer

Had to get my RCD500 changed 3 times in 2 years. The headunit just packed in on each occassion. Apparently a new unit was used each time.

Could be something as simple as a loose connection at the back of it. Worth having a look before your go to the dealers. It's quite easy to remove the headunit in the MK5. There will be a thread on here somewhere.

Hope that helps

If you do take it off dont do what I did and remove the airbag switch which requires VAGCOM to reset.

Thanks all. It was a loose connection. Fixed now, so far so good. Duffer
