VW Replica Wheels
« on: 09 April 2010, 15:08 »
Hi all im looking to change the wheels on my gti, ive seen some really nice looking 18" r32 black and chrome replicas.

However ive been warned off buying replicas as apparently they are poor quality, will buckle with the first pothole and will corrode within 3 months,

has anyone got experience of these,

thanks

Reps are fine as long you buy decent ones, which tbh I have no idea how you tell a sh!t rep from a good one (other than looking at it and thinking "hummm yes, it looks the same as the real one"). A lot of people run replica R32 ones with no problems.

Where you buying them from?

The reps ive seen are at a place called rubbers n rims in rotherham, they looked really good quality and he wanted £530 including badges and tyres, does this sound ok? Only problem is he wont be able to get me a for a couple weeks, so ive been looking on wheelbase.com has anyone tried these?

TBH Iv no idea what they go for, but at that price they will cheapo tyres. There have been several heated debates on what tyres are good but its worth spending that little but more and specifying a good brand tyre rather than chepo ones that will come with them.

The reps I have came as a package but I then specified I wanted Goodyear Eagle F1 rubber and it shot the price right up, but you pay what you get for.

I would avoid wheelbase and as Alan said try to get the tyres upgraded.

Where did you get them from Wazzer? I think I'm probably going to end up getting reps but I need pointing in the right direction.
