TDI Snapped engine mount - please help
« on: 09 April 2010, 08:36 »
Hi guys,

Last night the mrs was bumbling along on the TDI and all of a sudden the driver side engine mount went.

I've removed the engine mount but it seems that the secondary mount on the side of the engine to which this bolts has also detached itself.

2/3 bolts holding it on seem to have sheered off - pushing the mount into the cambelt setup.

The cambelt is still intact, although it has rubbed and ground on the mounting.

My questions are as follows:

1. Can i lift the engine out of the bay with an engine crane (my haynes manual refers to dropping it out of the bottom - i dont have the kit to do this)

2. has anyone else had this and used this fix? http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=468

I dont yet know whether any of the block has sheered off, or whether its just the bolts - at the moment the secondary mount is wedged stuck - im hoping removing the gearbox mount will give me the lateral movement to get it free and assess the damage....

Cheers

James

I've not heard of that happening before
Is it not possible to use a trolley jack to support the engine so that you can investigate the damage? In the same way that you would support the engine during a timing belt change?

This happened to me a couple of months ago, luckily everything worked out ok and the garage managed to lift the engine and sort it out..... Only cost £160 with recovery. Good luck with it mate
