ABF pin guide for fusebox
« on: 09 April 2010, 07:58 »
Anyone got a map of the pins on the fusebox and what plugs in where?

I'm finding out just how different a Golf3 CE2 fusebox is vs a Corrado CE2 fusebox.

All I have to say is standardised my ar$e.

also i have loads of different wiring diagrams, I have proper VW ones or Mitchell ones if you prefer?

the actual CE2 fusebox is the same from late MK2, MK3, Corrado, Passat etc.

The physical fusebox is the same.

Where the wires go is not.

Engine loom for Corrado = speedo input

Engine loom for Golf = no speedo input and something else where it is in the Corrado.

Annoying.

the speedo sensor wire on the ABF is bundled in with the engine loom, it pokes out behind the fusebox area blue/white wire. trouble is, there are 2 single blue/white wires in the engine loom, 1 runs to the speedo sensor, the other runs to the ecu.

Both my ABF and Corrado diagrams say the speedo sense wire runs to G1/11, but I vaguely recal they had those jumper block single pin connectors on, runs to those blocks clipped up inside the dash somewhere. I have an ABF loom sat in the garage I'll have another look when I get home for ya.

what engine/year is the corrado you're working on?

yep my spare abf loom has the speedo sensor wire running to G1/11, blue/white wire :)
there is another blue/white wire with a single jumper plug on, this is for the speedo output from the dash clocks for the ecu, o nthe golf this runs to W/1 via a blue jumper block above the fusebox somewhere. The corrado shouldhave something similar for the spoiler control unit & abs to connect to

oh and heres a mk3 golf dash wiring diagram:

The Corrado loom has the speedo drive in the main loom.

Look - blue and white here:

The Golf3 ABF loom I have had no speedo plug and if I pull the current wire out and replace it with the blue and white, the motor won't start.

I'll see if I can digest the wiring diagrams, but things ain't the same in there.

yep that plug is G1, and the blue/white is running to pin 11.
What you describe is really bizare! all the abf looms I've worked on have the speedo sensor on the engine side of the loom to the big round plug on the front of the engine (i.e. the bit with ecu temp, isv, injectors on etc) so deffo part of the engine loom. is this loom definitly a MK3 ABF one, and not some random SEAT model? If it is a MK3, do you happen to know what year it was, maybe there is a difference on the really late ones. Oh, maybe it was it an automatic, if they ever existed?

The loom is DEFINITELY from a manual M-plate Golf3 with an ABF in it, which I stripped with my very own hands last year.

I think there's a purple wire going where the blue and white one is at the moment.

I just cant figure it, all my corrado and golf diagrams tell me the same thing, if speedo sensor is fitted its wired to G1/11, blue/white wire. G1/11 is linked internally inside the fusebox to U1/11, which then runs to the clocks. All the ABF looms I have worked on have the speedo sensor as part of the loom on the the engine block too which makes it even more bizare.  My fusebox FAQ only covers the corrado VR6 specifically, but the others will be similar except the KR which has bugger all engine wiring as it runs k-jet. The MK3 part of the FAQ covers most of the MK3 range though.

The only Corrado diagrams I have are for G60 or VR6 as they're US spec, but they're still pretty handy as they show all the internal traces within the fusebox. If you PM me your email address I can send you them?

Have you got any more pictures of the abf loom plugs, maybe something will leap out at me...
