Problem!!
« on: 08 April 2010, 20:44 »
Hi guys, driving home from work today at a steady 60 suddenly loose power for a second; the revs drop and car stutters like i've tapped the breaks. It does this on and off for a couple of mins until i get to some traffic lights and then it stops. A few miles down the road I pull away from a roadabout and the the same thing happens again  :undecided: :undecided:

Anyone got any ideas what it could be??

Is it an 8v engine? Could be the fuel pump relay or ecu relay.

Yeah its 8v, i'll have a search for the thread about relays and try to find some time to change them. If it is the relays am I gonna do the engine any harm by driving it until i get them changed?

My car did this today, although my petrol gauge was somewhere near the needle rest. I pulled over because I knew exactly what it was, luckily I had a can of fuel in the boot

I've got plenty of fuel, filled up this morning. You got any idea if it's likely to be the relays Joe?

haha yeah why not, i'll even deliver if you want!

Think i'm gonna get up early and try to get to the local VW dealers to get some relays before work.

On one of the threads here it says ECU relay is #30 and Fuel Pump relay is #167. Can anyone confirm that for me??

Correct,

Fuel pump relay is around £18 with discount from VW and my ECU one was £9. Don't know the retail price though, but £40 should cover it I hope!

Just rang VW, they don't have them in stock at the moment. The ECU relay is £13.44 and the Fuel Pump relay is £34.13
