Cleaning the chrome exhaust pipes
« on: 08 April 2010, 11:11 »
Hey

Anyone know a good cleaning product to get the tail pipes looking shiney again?

Mine has taken a bit of a battering over the winter and they look like they are rusting although i dont think they are! Think its 3 months of grit, salt and snow which has killed them!

Thanks for your help.

You will also need a LOT of elbow grease.

Autosmart APC, Dodo Juice Supernatural, then protected with Jetseal - also an EZ brush up the tailpipe works wonders .

They are droolworthy after that.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Simple chrome cleaner does the job for me, though I try to give them a quick wipe down with a damp rag after every trip, thereby avoiding the need for any kind of chemical.

I often take mime to a hand car wash and the guys there just use what looks like a foam based oven cleaner and the pipes come up a treat. Part of the £7 for the whole wash. Excellent. (Luigi's in West Drayton ifanyone's interested).

Will post some pics next time I have it done.

Remember mate, you got a mk6, so the outer tailpipes 'should' still be nice and shiney, just get yourself a good cleaner and autosmart APC is fantastic, use that with an EZ brush for the insides of them. Then protect. Better protection the easier they will be to clean next time round. As I say, I use jetseal, its fantastic for it.
