00562 - Sensor for Oil Level/Temperature fault

First post, so hi all. 

Had my oil changed the other week, probably driven a few hundred miles since, sunday morning I got in the car, turned the ignition on and the 'oil sensor workshop' light came on for a few seconds and went out, turned the on the engine and never saw it again.

On Monday I ran vag com and got this, I was able to clear the fault, however read below.

00562 - Sensor for Oil Level/Temperature (G266)

            27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

Today I changed the thermostat, I reconnected the battery and let the car run for half hour to make sure all was fine, turned it off to get some din din, came back to go out and the light came on again grr flashed a few times and went out before the engine was started.

I was able to clear the code today using vag-com, is that just masking the problem being able to clear the code or did my car just have a little toy out that pram moment?

I've checked the oil level and tbh its a tad over the maximum mark would that being causing the problem? I also made sure that the wire/plug going to the sensor seemed to all be in place.

I've got near enough the same fault but I've got an open to ground reading

I think its just some dodgy wiring as I had a look on Sunday and couldn't see anything obvious but the problem is the wiring goes up the back of the block into the main loom 

Also if its the sensor at fault then thats £60

For now i'm just keeping an eye on the oil level which you should do every week anyway 

I'd drain a little oil out though as over-filling it can damage your CAT

I presume if it is the sensor, you have to drain the oil to change it as it goes up into the sump?

I'll also have a better lookey at the wiring.

Yer I check the level quite often but I've never notice it use a drop before.

Slightly undoing the sump plug so a little oil can drain out would be the best thing to do to get rid of the excess?

Yeah you do.  Mine is due an oil change within the next couple of months so I'll out up with it until then

Yeah just slacken off and drain it out into a clean container then refill if needed

I'll see if the fault comes back and if it does, will have to change the sensor. boo.
