Who can/cannot test drive your car?

Okay, I'm about to reluctantly sell my car. I've heard it's best to ask for proof of insurance before letting anyone take it out for a test drive. But what I'd like to know is, are there some "insured" drivers who are not actually covered because of limitations or exclusions in their policies. Eg. is there any small print I need to look for before I let some dude who's only a named driver on his gran's fire-and-theft only policy get behind the wheel.

firstly id like to see the money in my hand for the value of the car , secondly make sure there fully comp and the insurance is in there name

need to have own insurance cert with cover note outlining they can drive other cars loaned to them with consent. named drivers or other cover notes without this can't shouldn't drive it.

Also as far as I'm aware, anyone under the age of 25 will find it VERY hard to be insured to drive other people's car, regardless of being fully comp or other.

my theory is always have they got the cash there?

if they have then go ahead an test drive it if they dont have insurance thats there problem imo they no the risks but if they crash an damage the car they have to hand over the cash

Bell do it as standard for all ages Plus that will only cover them 3rd party. You really need them to get a temp cover policy:

I wouldn't trust a piece of paper without a telephone call to the insurers to confirm - only takes 2 minutes and saves a lot of bother.

Unless they have a crash and in theory YOU can can done as well as them by knowingly letting your car be driven without insurance. Not worth the risk. No cover? Then no test drive.

I wouldn't condone the use of another car without proper insurance, the thing that sucks though is for us young drivers who are looking for new cars (like I am) how do we get a feel for the car? Bar the owner taking us for a spin, it's not the same, you want to know how it feels to drive, and also make sure there are no problems like dodgy steering and the like.

Correct, I made the mistake of buying a car once without a test drive due to insurance reasons, never again.
