Where to buy a head unit
« on: 06 April 2010, 16:12 »
Hi Guys

I have tried this question in the audio section but I didn’t get a reply, so please bear with me.

I have the bog standard RCD300 in my MKV at the mo, I have a Connects2 plugged into the back (the one that tricks the head unit into thinking it has a CD changer installed) but for some reason it just doesn’t work. I can never get the head unit to go to the CD changer screen. I have spoken to a proper top bloke on here about the correct fitting (as the instructions that came with the Connects2 unit are absolute w@nk) and he was very helpful, but still no luck and he couldn’t figure out why it didn’t work?

I have also emailed the Connects2 tech people, but only got one reply asking for the part number, since then (about a month ago) I have had no reply.

As I have an Iphone it would be cool to plug it into the head unit, but as I don’t do many long journey's, just to and from the station and the girlfriends house mainly, I would like to just upgrade the head unit and make a few MP3 CD's but then still have the Connects2 fitted for those longer journeys.

I like the look of the new head units that are fitted to the MK6, but I understand there are some issues with battery drainage? So it looks like a nice OEM head unit from a MKV would be the way to go. Now I don’t need the sat nav head unit, as like I said I hardly do many long journeys, and if I ever need sat nav I have a Tom Tom.

I have had a look on eBay, but I couldn’t find many that were from Lithuania, or wouldn’t drain my battery dry. So could someone please suggest a good head unit that takes MP3, wont mess about with my battery and also work with my Connects2 thing? Any websites or links would be awesome.

Thanks in advance.

You may also need it coded as the headunit may think there's no CD changer.

Thanks for the reply but I have a different connector.

Mine is the 2nd one down but I have just the 3.5mm headphone jack connection, and the guy I spoke to on this forum told me about the ground wire thing.

My original post might have been a little confusing, but I am mainly looking to get a better head unit that won’t cause battery drain issues, and can have the Connects2 adapter plugged into it. I was hoping for some advice and maybe a few links of where to get one???

Looks good, looks liek the guy has a few takers for the head unit so I think I may have missed out.

I might be blind here but on the manufactures website is there any indication on price?

Any more suggestions on a where to get a orriginal one so I know it will fit and wont drain my battery dry?

Have a word with Martin (gillm) on the other forum, he's usually more than helpful

I haven't looked too far into it myself.
