Silver GTI Ed 30 Wax Recommendation

Hello fellow GTI owners,

Just waxed my reflex silver GTI Edition 30 with Collinite Marque D'Elegance, firstly washed with AG Shampoo, polished with AG Super Resin and finally 3 coats of Collinite Wax applied.  Took over three hours in total and definitely not for the faint harted, but worth every minute, the results are superb!  Couldn't resist doing the hosepipe test on the bonnet and the sheeting and beading effects are pretty impressive plus the shine is deeper and glossier than ever (sorry no pics  ).  Thought I would just pass on the message to anyone looking for a decent wax as I know myself how difficult it can be deciding which brand to go for seen as the price range can vary so much.

Tried AG HD Wax borrowed from a friend a few months back, but only one coat and this seems as good if not better.  I'm still itching to try a premium brand like Swissvax Best of Show or Dodo Juice Supernatural to see if they really are any better.

P.S.  Does anyone have any recommendations for any other market products I need to seal in the shine?

get yourself some chemical guys jetseal 109 or fk1000p hi temp sealant to protect the paint from sun damage and contaminents.

dodo supernatural is very good, and coupled with a sealant makes the durabilty much higher.

Dubplate Dan, thanks for the recommendations, 

I have checked out the Chemical Guys JetSeal 109 and it seems pretty impressive, I think I will have to purchase some!  Just a quick question, having recently waxed my car, do I apply two coats of this sealant after my next wash or is it best applied pre-wax, therefore wait for my next wax?

I am aware that I may have jumped on the 'AG' bandwagon in previous years, despite being happy with the results and the more i'm getting into detailing the more I see there's a whole world of car products out there that I need to start trying.

One last question, if I do decide to purchase a second wax and wanted to apply this before my Col 915 has worn off, can anyone recommend a product that will remove any previous wax, contaminants, without damaging the paint?

If you're happy with Collinite 915 Marque D'Elegance then save your money and stick with it 

Premium brand waxes are not necessarily any better as long as the prep is done well.  Have a read of this well respected (neutral) poster on Detailing World.

BTW sealants give a different look (less "wet look",  glossy shine) and are best put on before the wax.

as said above you need to put the sealant under the wax as it wont bond ontop of the wax,

you need to start again when you get your sealant.

its up to you at the end of the day what wax's you buy but collinite 915 is a good wax so as said above keep using that as its a very durable wax.

Thanks for the tips guys. 

I think I have it sussed now.  Got a little confused with what products I already have.  A few years back I purchased some AG Extra Gloss Protection hidden away in my garage, which I now realise is a sealant to be applied post polish and pre-wax.  Still got a little left to use, but my replacemet will be CG Jetseal 109.

As for a glaze, I think I will try some Dodo Juice Lime Prime Lite.  Does anybody have any past experience with this product?  My main concern is that appliying an abrasive (polish) too often will damage the paint, whereas Lime Prime Lite is non-abrasive and can be used inbetween polishing (which I now do quarterly) without damaging the paint.

Finally, My Ed 30 is religiously cleaned each week and after my final wax it feels very smooth.  I've not heard a bad report about claying, so is it still worth doing this now, or do I wait until I feel the paintwork is a little pitted and a wash isn't doing the trick?  I hear Dodo Juice Supernatural is good stuff and works well?

The car is looking slick after the weekends efforts, but i'm eager to do it all again.  It's certainly addictive!

lime prime lite is a very good glaze and is fine to use on a regular basis

supernatural is a very good wax, expensive but worth the dosh imho.

claying doesnt just remove inbedded contaminants it also removes surface contaminents so doing your ED30 occasionally wouldnt do any harm as long as its soft/fine clay your using, keep in mind though that once you've clayed youll need to seal and wax again

you dont have to glaze as a rule but it comes in to play after the polishing stage of the detail, it helps deepen the gloss after polishing and helps the sealant to bond.
