Some newbie gti questions. :D

Hello,

This is my first real post in here. So hello! 

Im currently looking to purchase a mkV gti so hopefully you will be able to answer a few questions i have:

When lowering the gti, what is the ideal drop? Ive searched, and it seems to come up with 30mm without compromising the ride quality. Does that sound right?

Is it possible to buy any different splitters/lower bumpers to fit to it? I can't stretch to buying an ED.30, but i wouldn't mind it looking abit more like one!!

You're making a very wise choice in car, the MK5 GTI is a brilliant, all round car. Regarding modifying, I'm a bit of a purist and like things as they are. The standard car handles great, so never needed to lower(although it probably looks cooler). Roughly, I think the ED30 carries a premium of around £2k over the standard GTI. But if you're after more power, a good remap can be had for between £300-£600, which will give approx 40 to 60(claimed) more BHP. Given the choice, I would have had an ED30, but the price put me off! Just be careful that spending a load of money on bodykits/upgrades etc, will edge you closer to ED30 money.

GTi's are superb cars to drive and own, I have Eibach pro-kit springs on mine (lowered by 40mm) car handles a ton better than stanard, which was very good anyways, but now looks alot better! esp on my 18" RS-GT bbs rims

The ride quality is still very good! just a tad firmer, and very drivable on daily runs to work and occasional track days!

And as far as splitters/ body-kits go, there are loads on the market.

Just take a look on the mk5 build projects section on here and you will get an idea
