Rear calipers????

I thought the rear calipers fitted to the mk4 range were pretty bullet proof, hence why they are a common upgrade on the MK1 and 2's.
But recently i have seen quite a few post about problems with rear calipers and needing to change them.
Is this just coincidence or are they not that good?

MK4 callipers aren't great - they're mixed metals and so prone to corrosion around the points where the metals meet.

MK2 callipers are mostly 20+ years old now, anything is an upgrade

Seems to be rear drivers calipers which fail.
Mines kinda stuck on so getting it changed this week and new back discs and pads.

alrite m8 dont know if you seen me post but i i had trouble with the calipers,
at first i thought they were seized but we managed to get the piston bk in,so yiepppie good job till i went to work 15 mile away and said to me m8 this doesnt feel rite,got to work got out the car had a look at the brakes and they were purple red hot m8.they were binding so was lookin round for new calipers

well i was waiting i thought i wud hgave a good at fixing them,so today i got the caliper in the house got the piston out of the caliper,it was dirty as hell cleared it all up inside and the piston got a good clean.
put some vasiea on the piston and on the thread the piston goes down.
be carefull when putting the piston bk on cuz i think this was what was wrong with mine if you dont get the piston level straight it will be very tight know thats what i thinbk was wrong with mine cuz it went down a dream.

i will be doin the other side tmz if you wont me to do pics let me know.

plus you are ment to get new seal i will see how i get on.

The only reason i said is i have noticed a few threads about them recently.

That time of the year mate, all the crap weather we've had over the last few months will have taken its toll on peoples brakes. with salt erosion etc.
