Did he just go straight for the kill and change the throttle body or were other things looked at first!... bit rash doing that??

Does it rev high as soon as it starts or once its warmed up?  how high and does it just sit at the same rpm? it could be something simple like the timing is wrong, faulty warm up reg, bad mixture.................

  • It's not the speed, it's the sudden stops...

sticky/frayed throttle cable,

disconnet each end and make sure it runs smoothly.
Failing that it has a monster air leak from some where, let it idle, then with small sprays of wd40 spray around the inlet side of things, in order, if the revs change doing this, the air leak is somewhere in that area...
Oh and don't spray too much on the exhaust/dizzy cap/plugs etc, engine fires suck...

Cheers
