Had 2 early MK2s before the old company Mondeos came along :-[
Kept with the family car till the last couple of years when I changed job, lost the car and after a few sheds, bought a Mk1 1.3 ;D
Brilliant car. Loved it to bits, which is what happened to it. :o

Didn't think I could afford the insurance for a Gti, till I made enqs about a Driver & then a GTi. Not much difference :D

Tried to find a reasonable Mk1 Gti, but anything over ?500 needed ?1000s spending. Went for a Mk2 and it was the first car for years that I actually enjoyed driving 8)
Have now sold that and got myself a goodun.............and so it goes on. ;D

ive had so many cars/hot hatches since i was 17 (oh god, there i go again, 13 years ago!!! :o) me and my mates have been into aircooled stuff since we all used to skate/bmx we started going to bug jams when we were 15, it kind of grew on me, but things dont always go to plan and the 1st cars i had were fords and vauxhalls, but then a few vw's came my way (mk1 scirocco storm,mk1 golf cl, along with a bug and a camper) then things went other brands again as i settled down and had kids etc, then one day i spotted a h plate mk2 8v at a main dealer vw, paid loads for it as it was main dealer but it was fun, till i noticed it sat on the p1ss, after many arguments it turned out the 1 owner was the farmer son who had repeatedly stuffed it in a d**e so i got my cash back and went to another brand, then i came across the mk4 i now have last year, then i came across a mk2 8v for a work mobile, which i then sold for a newer 8v gti, then i got a 16v (which im missin now) now thats gone in a trade and in return i have a mk2 scirocco scala along with a 1973 bug, and i still have my mk4 gti so you could say im vw mad really!!! well all my neighbours/friends think i am!!!

just my bit!

Gaz ;D

Lost count of the cars i've driven.
Got sold on Golfs by my son-in-law. He's had loads of different Mk 1, 2 & 3's. Tuned ones and standard.
So when i came for me to buy another car he wouldnt take no for an answer.
Glad it came out that way. The car is just what i want. So now i'm a Golf nut too!

Always wanted a buggy too, but am beginning to lean towards a Camper now! :-\

Still love my Mi 16 tho! ::)

always wanted a mk1 golf as my first car as they had far more class than any other comparable small hatch. Unfortunately finances dictated that I should have a ford first. In 1995 after driving for three years I bought my first mk2 16v. I've been driving mk2's ever since (well apart from a couple of short spells in other cars after writing a couple of golfs off  :'( ).
There are now three mk2 golfs on my drive and I love 'em as much as when I first got in one almost 10years ago.

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

"when i was a young lad"..only 19, they were still making Mk2s.

I detested them. thought they were ugly bricks.

Until a friend took me out in his 16v. He hammered this thing and it was sweet.

Bought mine for 4.2k 1 month later. She was a 4 year old Campaign, with 40k on the clock and was arguably one of the best examples around.

bought a mk2 driver (1600 carb) for a first car and it was such a solid reliable car that ive had nothing but mk2's since ;D dad had a tidy 16v in oak green aswell when i was younger so that probably influenced me too

As many of you have said already, I've had a fair ammount of cars in my time. As I got closer to 20 they got sportier and I finally escaped the chav Nova SR thingy every teenager in the 90's seems to have experienced !

I finally got a lovely red old skool XR2 - the fastest car I had owned until that point - even started racing them! Cheap - light - and the CVH was very tunable. After putting my BSc in auto enginering to use under the bonnet and having a barking mad engine that would do 120 miles to a full tank I was rather pleased .... then the fun began with bits breaking almost weekly - rust appearing everywhere - then finally the bottom end going bang racing a R5GTT.

After that I was looking for something from the old skool hot hatch era with solid build and performance - no choice really but a Mk2 Golf GTI!!

I did like them before I started to look, but had never been in one, or knew anyone that owned one - but since getting my current ride I've never looked back!

Just wish I started sooner and not wasted sooooo much money on other cars :(

Me bro's (who is a fair bit older than me) first car was a red Y reg Mk1 that he bought off his mate for ?300, but this soon broke, and he replaced it with a white Y reg Mk1 1.8 (I think) GTI.? He kept this for ages, but eventually replaced it with a nice black 2.0 16v Mk3.? This served him well for a good while until the cam belt came off on the motorway? >:( (but it had done about 160K miles by then!).? He now has a motorbike instead.

I started off with a 1.0 pug, which I shared with me ma', but when I moved out of home I bought me a 1.4 Polo (which my wife now pootles about in), and last December I got my own Golf GTI? ;D
