HELP PLEASE MK1 GOLF GTI 1600
« on: 28 March 2010, 13:44 »
Hi i am currently in the process of putting a 1981 x reg, Series 1 Golf Gti on the road.

Its not been on the road for over 5 years.

Have managed to get the car running, but when you rev the car, when the revs drop the car cuts out.

There is a white tube/pipe, coming from the scuttle panel, which is just dangling, and for the life of me i cant work out where this is supposed to connect, any pointers would be much appreciated.

Also i took off the cover from the airflow and when revving the car, the flap on the airflow, doesnt move at all not even a millimetre!

Is this normal?

Please help.....

Yep, I would put your cutting out issues down to crap in the fuel.

  • It's not the speed, it's the sudden stops...

Check the fuel filler pipe, bet it's rotten.  Change it and flush the tank & lines out, new filter, everyone's a winner.  (One of the bigger problems with MK1's)

Oh, the pipe may go to the speedo head if you have MFA.  If not, try the dizzy or back of the throttle body.

Cheers
