anti roll bars?
« on: 28 March 2010, 11:22 »
Hi all! Just bought a mk4 gti 1.8T. Very pleased with it apart from there seems to be an almost slight grinding/rubbing sound coming from the front. It has been lowered on HR coilovers. The front has probably been lowered about 35-40 mm max and the rear about 45mm. The sound is most prominent at around 45mph and occurs when in a straight line or turning right, but the sound goes when turning left. Would it be that its rubbing on the anti roll bar and i need to raise it up a bit?? Just wondered if anyone had these problems before or knew of it?
 Cheers, ben

35-40mm drop you should not have any truble witht he ARB tuching the drive shafts so it not that.
Any vibration throught the wheel? when you brack is it still there or not?
I would say if you can jack the car up and have a good look around and if you can put it on fall lock, spin the wheel to see whats happing.
TRANSFORM, & ROLL OUT!

ah ok. yeah it sometimes gets a bit ouder when braking. Almost as if its a rubbing. But sounds almost too loud for that. I did wonder whether its wheel bearings or cv joint?? Theres no real vibration through the steering wheel, no.

I would have a look around the Arb if it is rubbing there will be marks on it, if not have a good look round and check your front wheel bearings as they tend to make a rubbing/grinding sort of noise when they are fooked!
MK4 GTI T AGU, REVO Remap, BMC carbon box, Miltek cat back, Forge diverter valve, THS FR3 engine/Gbox mounts, Some random alloys, lowered on coilovers.

With it happening more when turning right it does sound like the ARB rubbing on the drive shaft. As mentioned check for rubbing marks on the driveshaft on the driver side.
