Audio options
« on: 27 March 2010, 22:26 »
Right, so Ive tried this in the audio section but havent had an answer. What options do I have for connecting my Ipod? I dont want to use the VW one as you dont have the full control through head unit? :undecided:

I wanted to put it in the glove box, I was considering a hard drive connected if this would work at all?

I have the standard stereo, not sat nav or cd changer.

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Sorry Nick, but you are VERY limited when it comes to the IPOD through the OEM stereo.

I started off with the RCD 300 and the OEM IPOD interface (which is a POS!) and ended up going aftermarket to get the IPOD control I craved.

There are some interfaces which use radio frequency reception through the OEM head-unit, but these too are a POS and you even have to use the IPOD to change your tunes

Go for a decent spec aftermarket head-unit (less than £200 would still give excellent results) and you'll be a happy chappy

As I mentioned before mate. RCD300 is rubbish. VW's offerings are pretty woeful apart from RNS.... plus the extra bits you need.

Go aftermarket.

In the meantime, if the RCD has "mp3" written on it, you can use MP3 cds.... not the same, but a step in the right direction until you upgrade.

The speakers in the car aren't that bad. It's the RCD that lets the game down.

Of course, the OTHER option in the meantime is an FM transmitter for your ipod... It does work (not brilliantly imho) - I've had one, but only used it a few times.

Dan

What's your budget mate - if you don't want Nav, look at the Pioneer 4100DVD. nice touch screen with GREAT ipod control. (and it's double din)

Cheers Dano, thats probably a bit more than I wanted to spend. Im not bothered about sat nav, but a touchscreen would be nice

Ive got my mp3 cds but twould rather be able to use a hard drive/ipod if I can. Ill be having a browse online see what I find
