rev counter madness
« on: 15 November 2004, 14:00 »
I have just charged my battery after it ran dead flat and now the rev counter bounces right round onto the stop as soon as the ignition is on and stays there. Is this something that might need a reset or have I got some dodgy wiring (fills up with water a bit so a possibility...)

shold be able to sort it by reseting the dash, find out which fuse is for the dash etc start the engine and wip it out for a few secondes and then put it back in, this should sort it out. i think its 3rd from the left but dont quote me!

On early MK2s it is 3rd from left, on later models it is 21 or 23 or something, check the back of your fuse box cover!  Leave it out for 30 seconds, sometimes more some peeps had to leave it out overnight!

If that dont help check the earth lead from the rocker cover to the back of the engine bay, and also the gearbox earth.

I had a similar problem on my 8v mk2 GTI. I turned out to be a bad connection on the ignotion coil. ???
