A couple of questions
« on: 15 November 2004, 13:06 »
1) I was fitting a new aerial on my g/f's golf yesterday and noticed her sunroof drainage pipes came through a slit in the rear of the front wings. Mine were just hanging out in the hinge area behind the doors. I've now shoved mine through the slits in the wings, I take it this is where they are meant to be and I'm not now gonna be draining water away to somewhere it shouldn't be???

2) How do you remove the wiper blank from the scuttle panel??? I want to apply some waxoyl around this bung to avoid the inevitable rust problem. I tried gently prising it out yesterday but it seemed to be held in by something. Having already fitted an aerial, repaired two door membranes, greased some rear calipers etc etc I just couldn't face removing the scuttle cover and working it out for myself!

Toby

1. yes they are meant to drain into the wing. the reason why your werent would have me wondering has it had new wings. but its more likely the person before pulled them out in order to clean them out

2. the scuttle blank just needs prised out, though id be careful. if its rusted in any way. forcing it out will just rip the rust out also!!

I tried as hard as I dared to prise that bung out but I don't want to damage the paint around it. It kinda came out a little bit but felt like there was something holding it back. There isn't any rust round it as yet so I wanted to treat it to keep it that way but don't want to damage any paint in the process thus initiating the rust.

just get the scuttle tray off - its only held on by a couple of clips then pop the bung out that way. its only tough as its hard plastic

Pretty sweet thanks Marcus, all alarmed up now with remote locking. Got its MOT tomorrow so hopefully I'll still feel the same about it then. Spent ages yesterday lubricating the window runners and making sure the door membranes were really well sealed. Drove it for the first time in a week on saturday and it had me grinning all day  ;D
