Cheap Oil Change
« on: 24 March 2010, 17:20 »
Whilst looking for a place to do an oilchange on the girlies polo I came accross this

http://www.national.co.uk/oil-vehicle-search.aspx

They reckon Catrol Edge is the most suitable for a 1.2 polo  but at that price I'm not arguing, £30.60.  Its also the same price for a GTI

Just a heads up incase someone wants to do a home service but hasn't got access to do the oil themselves

Nice one :afro:
MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

To ub7rm,

Have you actually done this at £30.60...can't believe this price.  Is this really for a maximum of 7 litres (as per website) plus filter plus labour.  There is a national at the bottom of Market Street.

Specialist Cars quoted me £12 per litre for the oil only...and Halfords online want £45 for 4 litres, again oil only.  Something not adding up here.

Please advise if and when done.

Many thanks,
Billy

I will be booking the polo in for this to be done next weekend, but you book it in online and then just turn up.  I hear what you're saying ... if its too good to be true and that but if its a mistake and I've already paid for it before I get there I don't see what they can do.

Speccy's wanted £149 to change the oil in the polo.  Which I very much grudge paying given it does about 4000 miles a year.  Will do the other stuff myself

If you are looking to buy the oil only, Costco works out cheap per l but I think you have to buy 4 x 4l tubs ...

I've used them in the past for our Golf (Mk4) GTI and current BMW. They used the correct spec Castrol Edge oil each time. Good price and service but take your own sump seal as they re-use the old one.

Yeah, certainly seems too good to be true...

I used bavaria to do the timing belt on my mk4 and had a pretty poor experience to be honest, they replumbed the fuel lines wrong and somehow overpressurised the fuel tank, causing the vent on the filler tank to act like a fountain and about 10l of petrol to get dumped all over the road, car and more worryingly was spraying about the engine bay too as that line couldn't take the pressure.  I was very lucky not to be incinerated and wouldn't trust them with a wheelbarrow.  That said

As for Volkscentre I used them, again on the mk4, to change a window reg and they did a good job.

I found that their quote for a 40k service on my mk5 was actually more expensive than speccys so they seem pretty expensive for an indy ...

Are you in the city or shire?

I'm in the city.  Just had my first mot done at specialist on Monday...passed with flying colours.

As an aside I asked about re-aligning my driver's door as slight water ingress when heavy rain...quoted me £95 per hour labour...luckily only took 30 minutes...but nearly had a heart attack at that rate.

Warranty runs out in July so will probably stick with the stealers and then shop around...but if bavaria and volkscentre can't compete on quality or price may need to stay with specialist.

Yeah its pretty frightening what they charge.

In fairness Bavaria have a really good reputation so what happened with me was probably a one off but its enough to put me of using them again.

And as for volkscentre, didn't help that speccys were doing an offer on brake fluid change and ac service at the time...  Speccy's do price match though so always worth getting a quote from others.

C&D Auto's in Banchory are supposed to be ex VAG guys and are really competitive but they are too far out of my way.

Got a voucher to do my timing belt for £300 from speccy's vs ~£500ish again from Volkscentre so they win again on that one ...

This would appear to be a stunning offer!

Does it definately include the filter and fitting?

If so it could be the deal of the year.
