90 spec 16v metering head onto pre 90 16v engine
« on: 24 March 2010, 12:59 »
I have just fitted a replacement engine into my 1989 16 valve. The replacement engine has the later 50mm inlet manifolds and came with a 90 spec metering head. As far as I can tell the wiring is the same but the large plastic valve thingy that fits to the rear of the metering head does not fit as there is insufficient room between the metering head and the suspension turret. I've also noticed the 90 spec metering head cover does not have a vacum take off like my original earlier one.

Is it possible to use the larger 90 spec metering head somehow?

Cheers

Gez

Just so you know mate, there's barely any room behind the airbox for the airbox 'accessories', even in standard form. I had a right ballache cramming mine in! OOer!

the metering head is the same, just pipework and air box differs. simply unbolt the metering head and airflap unit from the 90spec airbox and fit it to your old one, then use all the old pipework etc :)

Ideally i'd like to retain the 90 spec airbox as its larger and not split in half like my original one!!! Any ideas how the pipework differs? diagram maybe

the early one has the pipes to the over-riun cutoff on the side of the front rubber boot, later one has the pipe on the plastic pipe between the 2 boots. also the front rubber boot is a different shape

Ok, so thats easily sorted, I just need to squeeze the valve thingy in between the airbox and the suspension turret then. Cool thanks for the top advice
