100% agree. Its seems strange to be that when the gearbox is in S and see's you are driving constantly it wont up shift.

The D mode just seems too sluggish and I dont want to have to use full kickdown each time just to get medium progress.
All I want is it to drop one gear maybe two. Another example is at 60 in D on the motorway in 6th as you join another motorway I dont want hell for leather acceleration just a nice pull into the entry lane. The only way the car will work is to floor the accelerator.

To me this doesnt seem right.

Yes that's all typical DSG  : ... D changes up too early and S is a bit manic unless really pressing on.

I've found the best bet is to use M mode (with the paddles) except around town

All the mechatronic faults are on older models

The "lurching" in 1st and reverse was the biggest fault and affected a lot of cars (including my last R32)

The problem you're encountering could be just a DSG trait .... it does tend to need a half second sometimes to decide what to do on a roundabout and if you accelerate just as it has decided to change down you can get a frenzied second.  Over time you get to feel what the gearbox is doing, but I've found M mode is much better for roundabouts.

James,

Nothing serious and its still a great car that we'll keep til it dies but its had a few issues -
passenger door came with cloth (rest of car leather)
wipers died (but that may have been my fault)
creaking drivers door getting fixed tomorrow (new window surround or some such)
i think the boot is slightly out of alignment, will mention tmrw
passenger seat creaks like fcuk when anybody is in it, empty its fine, just v annoying
its had a cracked windscreen (not VW fault!)
and its swansong was all the lights coming on in the dash as my missus and 1 year old were on the M1, RAC bloke reset it and VW couldnt find any fault, never happened again, they asked if it was in heavy rain as if that was ok!
DSG however has been marvellous, so far......
5dr Silver GTI DSG (they've invented something to change gears quickly, I'm using it- has anybody specc'ed manual window winders so they feel more involved?) Leather, RNS, Blueteeth and a few odd and sods
