There wont be any problems in the O.P's mechatronics steve. The fault he says thats showing ISNT
the mechatronics chap .

Mechatronics failure or signs of it, will either be bunny hopping in 1st gear like bad clutch control, or reverse gear taking ages to select.

I'm sure if I trawl through a couple of forums I might find the answer

Twice now in low gears the car has just not engaged the next gear for about a 0.5 sec and the cars revs jumped up. Looked a right prat leaving home the other day and then this morning in the middle of a roundabout I squeezed the throttle and did nowt until the car oblidged and engaged the next gear.

Anyone read or experienced this in other DSG cars?

Mine's an R, but sure its equally applicable to other GTI's with DSG

Could be getting this mixed up with something else but wasn't there a recall for some DSG models?  Have a search of this forum.

Was that not back in October / November time?  He has a Golf R - which was likely built in the last month or two.  I'd HOPE that VW would have sorted the issue with new ones at the same time they issued a recall?
Perhaps this is one that slipped through the net.

Back to the dealer for inspection...

Going in tomorrow. Question about S vs D if I may.
Going along at 55 in D in 6th. Change to S and car goes into 3rd. Stay on light load, flat road and accelerator constant.

Car just sits there for over a mile in 3rd. Is this correct?

In D mode the car is too lazy and stays out of the powerband. In S mode it just won't settle into a high gear for ages. Ie it would not go into 6th in S mode unless at high motorway speeds.

Never had DSG, but my Cayman has PDK, so used to these types of box.

That was one of my complaints about my R testdrive - the DSG was either in 6th or 3rd! (D or S)

The simplest way is to drive it in Manual, but then it kind of defeats the purpose of an auto box... apart from you can rest your left foot!
There are some DSG remaps out there that will solve this problem, but then I guess they'll invalidate your warranty?

100% agree. Its seems strange to be that when the gearbox is in S and see's you are driving constantly it wont up shift.

The D mode just seems too sluggish and I dont want to have to use full kickdown each time just to get medium progress.
All I want is it to drop one gear maybe two. Another example is at 60 in D on the motorway in 6th as you join another motorway I dont want hell for leather acceleration just a nice pull into the entry lane. The only way the car will work is to floor the accelerator.

To me this doesnt seem right.
