How to remove overhead light unit
« on: 20 March 2010, 13:28 »
I want to fit my Fiscon microphone in the factory place, which is in the overhead light unit, but I don't know how to remove it. Can anyone help?

Thanks.

I spoke to FISCON about this and they advised me it was not a good idea to fit their microphone in the overhead light unit as it would not perform adequately. The best place is on the 'A' pillar.
This is because the FISCON microphone is 'passive' and is unlike the 'active' microphone VW fit in the overhead light unit. The 'active' microphone has greater sensitivity.

Dead easy, just slip a credit card in and the unit pops out.

Thanks for the replies.

I've seen the page on the Fiscon site that shows how to do it. If they show how to do it, I reckon it must be okay!

I tried to slip a credit card in but it wouldn't budge. Are there no screws holding it up there?

No screws.
Give me 20 minutes and I'll take some pics as I'm bored anyway

The VW Fiscon instruction manual has a big red square in it with the following inside: NOTE: Regarding to the voice quality do not fit the microphone covered inside the interior light.

I'll probably fit mine in there too because I don't want a naff looking mic on display.  If callers moan about the quality, then I guess I'll move it.

Thanks. Managed to get the light cover and the one where the microphone goes off. Can't get the one off where the alarm sensors are. I think I need to get the whole black plastic unit out, so I can then take the 2 screws out to be able to feed the microphone in under the headliner...

Strange that they have this page then:
