URGENT! X reg 2.0 engine problem
« on: 19 March 2010, 22:21 »
Bro just bought a 2.0 golf, its developed a sort of judder while accelerating, feels almost as if a coil pack has failed, as ive had this experience before on a different car. not saying its this though. was doing it a little bit but now its worse and the engine light come on. also on startup it comes up with oil sensor workshop on dash.

dont want to drive it anymore if its gonna cause damage so any ideas cheers.

afaik all fluids are ok as well.

When it judders is it missfiring? Could probably just do with a fresh set of leads. Pretty simple these old 2.0 engines.

not really engine seems to drive smooth as, but when you go to give it gas it almost hesitates, i had a MG ZR 160 (yes i know fail) that had a coikl pack fail, and the engine light come on, and its exactly the same with this golf. I will also try the MAF sensor. So this is separate to the oil sensor warning? Also its only done this now thats its been on a long run home from having bought it.

thanks again

If your oil level is fine i'd guess it's just a dicky sensor. If it was an oil pressure problem it'd be rattling it's t!ts off and the warning message on the dash says STOP! The 2.0's don't suffer from the oil starvation problem as bad as the 1.8Ts. It may well be coilpack but the maf test is simple and free. You don't really want to be guessing at things and replacing parts randomly hoping for the best though so get it scanned for fault codes and go from there.
