V6 4Motion fault codes

Hey folks,

I went to look at a Mk4 V6 4motion, on the test drive I scanned it with one of those £30 Gendan Fault Code readers and it threw up the following.
P0122 Code - Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Low Input

and the other was..

P1746    0532 Transmission Control Module Relay

Can anybody enlighten me as to what they are caused by?

p0122 - tps was probably unplugged at some point for one reason or another.. the car wouldnt start/rev if it was broken. The code needs to be cleared and see if it comes back.

as for the second one.. was the car an auto? Or is it yet another gendumb reader chucking out false positives

Could do with the vag specific dtc numbers really.

Havent scanned a mk4 before only a mk3 so didnt know where the obd2 point was.

It was a manual 4mo.

All in all do you think there is anything to worry about with these codes, the car drove very well and i cant really fault it.

Personally i wouldn't be too concerned, but for peace of mind see if you can borrow a proper vagcom then scan/clear/test drive/scan again before handing over any cash.

That second code is bugging me now... it relates to an auto transmission but as i said the gendan readers are known for chucking out false positives with some vag stuff and i'm wondering if it's related to the haldex system.

Try and get the front wheels spinning - if they spin up and the rears don't turn then walk away! Also drive it in a tight circle slowly in both forward and reverse gears and listen for clicking from the rear diff.

Maybe its just after you mentioing about clicking but i did hear some clicking when he was driving slowly then when reversing to turn round.
Also another thing is he had esp turned off when driving, this may have been done intensionally so that that issue didnt arise when on the test drive, i think i may give this one a miss and maybe send a little bit more time finding a better one.
