Is he positive it's the 140 brake one? Towards the end of the mk5 run (in Ireland at least) they slapped the GT TDI badge on practically anything but the bottom spec optionless 90 brake ones. Maybe he has a 110bhp TDI? I know that they slapped GT badges and front bumpers on the non turbo 1.4 mk5s in mid 08 here.
pretty sure he says its a 140brake and it doesnt have any GT badges on it and if it was a 90 or 110 my 2.slow should murder it lol

Your mate might have the 110 BHP TDi model,
I have an 08 Golf TDi for my company car which is nicely loosened up now as I rag it everywhere as always in a hurry. I kept up with my mates MK 4 1.8 GTi from a standing start right up to 85 MPH the other day.
Also in comparison I have just bought a 56 plate GT TDi 6 speed for our private car and the difference is amazing between them.
