Headunit Code Question

just a quick question regarding my VW headunit i have on ebay,

someone messaged me asking could they test it in there car first to make sure they dont need a code because they'd seen another for sale which had a code with it.

But i have disconnected my battery a few times, and was never asked to put a code in.

Do all headunits require a code? Or will it ask for a code in another car it goes in?

And finally if it did require one could i get it from the dealers, how much , what ID will i need etc etc...

one last question,

if the headunit is out my car will VW still give me the code? can i tell them im selling it so the buyer will need the code...

I would think so
