If your phone hasn't got remote sim it won't work with the factory kit,
When you turn the ignition on the rcd asks for your phone pin no, after that is entered it connects and copies your sim card into the RCD memory and imobilises your phone (cannot use your phone at all) all calls etc are done through the mfsw or the rcd, a bit of a pain but when your use to it the kit works very well.
Hope this helps
sorry mate but whats a remote sim?

look through your phone and activate remote sim card, where something else can read your simcard via bluetooth,
My phone kit wouldn't work when i picked my car up and dealer said that my phone wasn't compatable with the kit
i looked through my phone manual and saw that remote sim card mode in the phone had to be turned on, and just enter security pin no that you use when you turn the phone on, now works a treat
(i have got a Nokia N86 8Gb)
Thanks Neil and thanks for your reply on my gearbox shudder thread aswell.

Yesterday I bought the HTC touch a beautiful toy with rSAP in order to mate with my RNS510...BUT......

Can somebody explain to me ...if I make a detailed outlook contactperson (instead of a restricted 8-letter SIM contact) so the hole show...pics email kids company wife etc etc...does the car RNS take that off my phone.... despite not putting it on the Sim...is there a difference...

I am a bit new in this media wonderland....

Eric
the RNS only shows contacts that are copied to your simcard, on my phone you have to list them separate not like several no's in one name group if that makes sense,
it wont let me copy a group to sim card only phone memory which dosn't show up on the RNS,
I Have got the VW Phone prep don't know if fiscon etc is like this ?

Hi Neil

I have RNS510 with a VW-premium car kit....The SIM methode is actually quite outdated being restricted to an 8 character name etc...

It seems a bit stupid that you are able to make in your phone a detailed contactperson with multiple phone nrs attached (home work mobile) and than AGAIN copy it to your SIM (with corrections to make it acceptable ) in the end having every contact TWICE (one detailed and one in short) on your phone-screen in order to let the RNS get it from your sim only.....

Yes thats what it is like on mine and if the contact no: is in the phone twice(sim and phone mem) the name of the caller dosn't show up

That is strange Niel since the RNS should not "see" the second (same) contact in your phone memory because so far we think that it only takes info of the SIM.
Have you tried to make only ONE contact in full detail and watch what happens when you synchronize the HTC with the RNS.. :undecided:.

This is actually quite a usefull experiment for all forum RNS owners...because what you are now saying is that nobody with an RNS can make use of the incredible usefull outlook features in the phone memory,  since they have to give the priority to the SIM...

What i mean't to say was that if i had joe bloggs home no: and mobile no: listed under joe bloggs as a 1 contact i cannot copy this to sim, it divides it into 2 contacts, so then i have to delete the 1 in the phone memory, or the contact name wont show up when joe bloggs rings when the phone isn't connected to car kit,

Okay clear...

But now suppose you do not copy it to the SIM I wonder if the RNS takes the contacts off the phone memory with the help of bluetooth so forgetting the sim all together... :nerd:

Neil, what Bluetooth have you got?
With the Fiscon if you have 2 numbers in your phone i.e. Joe has 12345 for home and 45678 for mobile, the fiscon will download 2 contacts for Joe.

Hello PS than maybe you can answer my next question...

I think that if do not make use of the outdated SIM and put all the outlook-contacts in my phone memory the RNS510/VW Premium kit will store all the phone numbers involved per person as a clone in the nav system so e.g, you have the Stig with home, work and mobile stored in your HTC phone it will be transferred and stored as such under Stig......and synched every so often...
