Should I break it????
« on: 15 March 2010, 22:47 »
Got a 96(N) 8v GTI in Flash Red with a knackered gearbox, its done 192,000 miles loads of history, engines a good runner, bodywork is in pretty good condition and interior isn't bad either.

Option 1 -
Get a gearbox (Sourced 1 for £100) would need to spend another £50 or so I reckon to get it through its MOT, plus £45 for the MOT itself, then sell the whole car.

Option 2 -
Spend nothing on it and break it, use bits off it for my other one and sell everything else.

What do you reckon people, need a decision making for me cos I just cant decide!!!!!

I know bud, it really would be a shame to break but I get aload of bits for my other for free and would probably make more money on the rest than selling as a whole.
I dont really wanna break but it seems like the most sensible option.

Ha ha I like it, although it does sound a little like we have sex on planes
The high mileage is one of the things puttin me off fixing and selling, if I could afford to I would just keep it but thats just not an option

High mileage should not put you off at all. If looked after properly the Golf will run forever.

My personal opinion..

You probably wouldn't have much luck selling it with that amount of miles on the clock. I've tried selling mine a few times now but as soon as they ask what the mileage is, I tell them, and they walk away! Doesn't bother me though cus I know the engine was partly rebuilt at 152k and it's bulletproof!

You'd definately get more money breaking it..

It probably does seem like a waste of a good car but once you've sold all the bits off it, you'll see it was worth it.

I had a mint condition 1995 Mk3 GTI 16v in mystic blue with 96k on the clock and full service history. Unfortunately the ECU had melted  so I had to break it :(
