I have a whistling sound coming from the right wheel arch of my 1.8t. Its funny cause it only came about after i got it back from my mechanic. Any hows i took it back in and they said the bosch computer says there is a air leak, that leads me to believe that this is ofcourse the problem but for some reason or another they cant find the leak.
The noise, which sounds like a whistle but only sucking air inwards only happens when i excelerate, usual above 4,000 rpm and from then on only gets louder.

Just wanted to know if this is a common problem or what it might be?

check the hose connections down there - its where your intercooler is located, behind the lower right front grill

It's common for the clips to fail / rubber o-rings to perish - no more than a couple of quid each from VW

what year is the 1.8t,if its the aum engine or auq the turbo to panckae pipes are prone for going wrong, and they are in the area you are describing.theres a silver heat protection jacket that covers the fitting remove this and check that the pipe is seated correctly and the clip is holding it in.the lugs on the pipe itself wear and the clip is then unable to hold the boost hose in.
