Its sooooooooooo easy for it to be a misbuild...

When a car is rolling off a production line and can NOT be stopped as it will cost a friggin fortune to stop it.... then what ever parts they have will go on the car!! This happens loads of times.

That is why people have problems when they ask for parts specific for the model they have and the part is wrong.

different brakes is one of the worst misbuilds in cars up to date. My mate has a mk3 1.6 with 288mm brakes as standard...... explain that.

Agreed. My mate works at Plant Oxford and he says the number of mis builds is pretty high. Cooper S's with the wrong colour scoop in the bonnet is a good example. The guy fitting the scoops has them lined up int he same colour order as the cars coming down the line. If the scoop or car order is wrong it costs too much money to stop the line and sort it so they fit the wrong one and sort it out at the end. Sometimes cars can slip through the rectification process.

My mate works in the body refinish section doing paint repair on cars that get damaged on the line or have wrong colour bits fitted. He says the funniest ones are when the window fitting robot has a fit and just smashes the screen over the roof of the car!

Difficult one re. the modding question. It would be a shame to dump the original 48k engine, but if it already has 16v badges on it, it's already asking for an ABF.

THe guy who owns this car stated:

According to the couple who sold it to me the car was delivered with 16v badges on and the dealer apologised and said he'd either take them off or retro fit them some OEM darkened rear lenses as a gesture and chuck in some other bits.  They went with the latter!

That says missbuild to me. No one would make up that kind of story for someone sticking the badges on. Besides the fact that I've never seen someone go to the effort to put the badge on the glovebox and the beesting on an 8v. The low mileage and condition described suggest it's been nowhere near someone who'd be likely to do this anyway.

Misbuild or not, it doesn't matter now and modding is a very personal thing. It's down to what you want out of the car, if you want it slammed, blacked out windows, ripspeed alloys and scrubbin' fairy nuff, if you want it standard fairy nuff.

Bee sting was an option on an 8v, my dad's 89 small bumper has one.

Why? As has been said, cars leave with the wrong gearboxes, headunits etc etc. My sister's boyfriend's fiesta st was built with half leather seats and tinted windows, neither of which he asked or paid for. 3 badges are hardly a massive mistake.....

You could mod it with good quality parts that are easy to return to stadard
come sale time.

I still want to see a pic of the engine, before I'm convinced Interesting topic though, badged as a 16v would have meant that someone had placed a bin full of badges at the end of the 8v production line, and left the factory, after being inspected! then delivered to the dealer, and missed on the PDI. I would have thought that misbuilds would be more likely to be things like, the wrong fabric on seats, wrong tint of glass etc, the sort of stuff that is specified on the build code sticker in the boot
Imagine ordering a Ford Sierra GL, and you take delivery of a car badged as a Cosworth Sierra 
For me, the most likely scenario is that somehow the car was rebadged at the dealer, maybe the original owners bought a cancelled order, where someone wanted it badged as a 16V... we'll never know
