DSG Gearbox Problem
« on: 10 March 2010, 17:58 »
My wife encountered a problem with the DSG box on our 10 day old Golf GTD yesterday. The car started normally in "Drive" then she noticed the D in the information display flashing on and off. The DSG would not auto change but stuck on low gearing. When she pulled over she tried to select reverse but nothing happened. She restorted to switching the ignition off and restarting the car. This seamed to clear the fault with the DSG as it then worked perfectly.  I popped into my local VAG dealer the next day explaining the fault and they suggested it could be either one of two issues. First, the gear selector may need investigating/replacing or secondly the DSG machtronics module is at fault whatever that means.  Both, he said would show up as a fault on a diagnostics check up as the vehicle would have recorded the problem at the time. They recommended we book the car in for this check! He seamed to indicate these are known issues with the DSG. Has anyone else experienced this problem with their DSG!

I would suggest using the search function for "DSG problem". There are a number of known issues with the dsg box... the main one being boredom

machtronics  unit imo as it happened more or less exactly the same to the DSG mk5 at work. (Its the DSG gearbox control unit) It probably tried to select two gears at once its what ours did

I don't understand this comparison. That extra weight still wouldn't make a dsg equipped car slower than a manual.

No argument about slower. the manual definately looses out there. But that would probably only be really evident on track. On the roads with a good driver I doubt there would be much in it.
