Wolfsburg calling??

Reading several post of UK people waiting for shipment from Emsden got me thinking; has anyone considered going over to collect their GTi?.

I know you can collect - I remember reading a roadtest last year with some waffle about large towers at the plant with the cars in that are awaiting collection as opposed to transfer to ports.

Just a thought ... but maybe a selfish canvas of opinion.

A recent change of law now requires the car to be in the country before you can register it. It's a long way to transport/tow a car.

Audi charge about £450-500 to pick theirs up, so VW are probably about the same (if they do it).

I went there last summer when mine was being built, I was informed at the time the collection option isn't yet available for U.K customers due to licencing/registration issues. Customers from some other EU countries however can collect.

There are two massive glass fronted towers full of new cars at the Wolfsburg factory - in the middle of a lake, the cars are transported through a tunnel system from the factory and placed in the tower using robotic elavators.
When the customer collects the car it is retrieved from it's position in the tower using the elavators and the lucky person can drive it away.

Absolutely amazing to see.

Not slating the motors at all, but that setup reminds me a bit of shopping at Argos.....
