Golf MK4 Rear Centre console replacement
« on: 08 March 2010, 13:36 »
Hey guys,

On my Mk4 golf, how hard is it to take out the rear centre console?

I want to replace the whole rear centre console, and put in a new rear ash tray and new rear drinks holder.

How hard is it?

Cheers.

Easy.

Two T20 torx at the front behind plastic cap by the gear lever. Two at the rear, move the cup holders out and the other bit blocking them and there is two T20's there. You can pull the cup holders out to get better access.

Now then.  Talking of which, did you fit your arm-rest yet?

Would it be better to put in armrest instead of the standard ashtray and rear centre console then?

The arm rest sits above the centre console and and just in front of the rear ashtray, so you will still need the centre console there.

Armrest seem to carry silly scene tax, but there are bargins to be had. Tim and I have recently picked up armrest for circa £20. They are easy to fit, but decent ones on ebay are anything from £50 - £80 (expect to pay more from the stealers).

Fitting is a ten minute job. If you buy one on ebay, make sure you get the bracket and nuts / bolts.

Have a look here mate:
