Hi There,

I have a 1997 R Reg 8v GTI 5door, I am looking to fit a VR6 engine to it.

Now I know everyone says, buy a VR6!! Fair enough, But I already have a complete Low Mileage VR6 Engine, VR6 Subframe, Hubs/Brakes and all the engine wiring loom, ECU etc. from a previous project!!

I have checked the search button and it seems it isn’t too bad a job, the only thing is my engine is an OBD1 with a distributor, removed from a 1992 VR6 what is needed wiring wise or is a straight Plug and play? Remove 8v Engine Loom and Plug in VR6 Engine Loom?
I know I have to change the clocks aswell, but I have them too.

I know I need to change to a Hydraulic clutch aswell, That is no problem but is the hole already in the bulkhead for mounting the Clutch Master Cylinder?

Any Help greatly Appreciated!!

Cheers

Matt

Cheers Wayne,

Ive already Read that and it all makes perfect sense, which is good, the only thing im a bit confused with is this:

Quote:
"Ignition is immobilised with a chip in the key. With all mk3 engine swaps you either need to swap your ignition and keys locks to the ones that the car with the ECU you are using came out of. OR get the ecu you are going to be using de-immobilised."

I agree the GTi is immobilised, but the VR6 donor was a very early one that had no Transponder or Key chip or anything?? Obviosuly I will need to run the VR6 ECU..... I also dont have the keys to the donor as I have long since scrapped it!!

I know the ECU and engine work as it is currently sat in a MK2 Golf that I converted.

Any Ideas???!!!!

Cheers

Matt

thinking that the obd1 engine has different maf and idle control you would have to use the vr6 ecu, but then you would have no immobiliser anyway, so your original key would work surely? And since you have to move the clocks and ecu, the vin will be different to if read back, you cant change that except using vag oem equipment im sure, but would still run with the un-immobilised ecu.

Going the other way would be different.

If you use the VR6 ecu and remove the transponder ring I am guessing but that should work.
