New to all this!!!

Hi,
Never realised there was so much information about keeping a car in top condition, I’ve always thought turtle wax and black diamond were the dogs balls, apparently not. So here the question for an adsolute beginner to the new advances in car cleaning products.
What are the steps required to get a 1996 16V back to its best, as mentioned above please treat me as an idiot in theses matter. Step by step guide would be appreciated.
