fuel flap solenoid gone missing??
« on: 07 March 2010, 13:38 »
weird one this,

went to fill up the other day and released the fuel filler flap as normal, filled up , and i couldnt shut the flap properly.... went on my way and had a look a bit later.. seems what ever pin some thing that holds the flap in the closed position has fell out... it dosnt even make the usual 'noise' so im assuming its bollox'd ... have fitted a locking petrol cap for now but was wondering if theres and how to guides or pics of changing this? ive removed the flap assembly to have a look, can can see a kind of barrel which i assume is the solenoid but cant figure out how its fitted in the rear quarter??

and advice welcome and maybe part number of new solenoid??

cheers

Gaz

Part number I've found is 3B0959782

Not sure how you remove it though - might have to strip the parcel shelf assembly out on that side to actually get at it  :undecided:

latest price I got is £16 from the dealers so I'd expect it to be around the £20 mark now

to access around the filler cap u have to go under the arch like i have done on all my other motors ie mk1-3 you cant access it from the inside of the car. remove the mud guard and ul see everything up there

found it today , had a look after removing trim, didnt have to do the mudguard thing as its all inside on the rear 1/4 panel, solenoid (well i wouldnt call it a solenoid, more of a wanky motor and gear / spring device) , removed and it was seized in 'open' position,  opened it up and cleaned every thing and greased etc, worked and few times then seized again so its deffo going to be a replacement part jobby as this thing jams its self every now and then..

so will be ordering part if not in stock at local vw stealers this week so can get sorted..
