hi all,
just changed to a m3.5 steering wheel.

disconnected the battery ,left it for a while, swapped the wheels over, now my airrbag light wont go out.

stuck the vagcom on it and it comes uup with this fault.

00588- airbag igniter  drivers side (n95)    32-00- resistance to high.

tried clearing it, but the light still stays on.
anyone know what this is??and how safe/unsafe it is to drive???

cheers
pat.

Have you made sure you have plugged in the airbag slip ring to the unit? Damaged anything?

Unsafe in the sense you have no airbag.

You didn't turn the slip ring when the steering wheel was off then put it back on as it can only turn a certain amount of times so if you put it back on one turn out of place when you full lock the steering wheel it will snap the coil thing inside the slip ring.

could have been, i dont know.

i took the wheel back off ,after looking at the slip ring thing on my old wheel, and maybe i had it located wrong?????
as it can move freely round the wheel,or get stuck and only move an inch each way.....maybe it was in this postion first time????
.any how it moved nicely when i refitted it....and the light went out as normal.....so im happy, whatever the problem was its sorted now...fingers crossed.

is there anyway you can buy new slip rings/and the loom with the plug that connects to the car????
as my plug was snapped when i got the wheel through the post today, i thought this was the issue at first?????
i managed to glue it and support it with elec tape and it seems ok.

00588- airbag igniter  drivers side (n95) 32-00- resistance to high - means the new wheel has a different firing module with as it says, as the resistances are different it may not operate in a crash when the ecu tries to fire the airbag....you must put the oem wheel back or use a resistor and have no airbag at all.

hi mate,
i put my oem wheel back on, and it came up with the same error, but had interment(if that's how you spell it ???? lol) on the end of the code.
so i thought i was doing something wrong????

anyhow i put the new wheel back on making sure the slip ring moved freely. and it seems ok now, airbag light goes off as it should, and no error codes when i ran vag com.

strrange  !!!!!

i thought it might be that aswell,,as my connector block is broke.(it's glued and held together with tape at the mo-but seemed to click together nicely)

just looking into weather/how to take the slip ring off,so as i get a new block and ring.

would you happen to know weather this could be done mate?????
if so???? could  i use the one on my old mk3gti wheel as it looks the same ,and the connector block on that is fine.
or is it a vw job only???
cheers

The slip ring comes of the wheel with three screws, not sure if the mk3 and 3.5 rings are the same, they should be though.
