You need to make sure they fit a decent size silencer in the mid section, most people go for just a back box after the cat which makes it loud and wheezy, you need a decent mid silencer to keep it quiet under normal use.
Mine has a small tubular mid section which keeps it quiet until you really wind it up
(LoL winding up a MK3 8v )

I have this stainless steel exhaust from jetex.

http://www.tsr-performancestore.com/jetex-stainless-steel-exhaust-system-to-suit-golf-mk2-8-valve-156-p.asp

At idle (~775rpm) and >3000rpm is when it's noisy, between that range it's ok.

I have set off a few car alarms if the other car is parked directly behind mine.

TBH i don't like it much, and it's louder than i expected.

The fact it has a lifetime warranty is nice, but if i were to buy again i'd get the twin-pipe mild steel version. Its £40-£50 cheaper, probably slightly quieter, and will outlive the lifespan of the car.

I replaced my longlife with a £45 quid standard system from central auto supplies and its brilliant.

Still got a bit of a growl to it but otherwise very quiet, looks nice aswell with the polished tail pipes

Got any pics of that? Mines had a DTM on it since I bought it and I'm finally fed up of the constant boom in the car. I assume 45 quid was just the backbox?

I had one a it was very loud, however i beleive they can tailor it to the customers wishes, by adding another resonastor box and more wading.

I have one on mine - worked out cheaper than a full standard system from VW - I am pleased with it, although it took a bit of adjustment (particularly around the bumper apeture where they originally fitted it too close). It does also vibrate on the rear beam when the car is fully laden, so also worth ensuring they make sure it clears easily. I asked for a quiet system and it is quiet on the motorway and around town, but above 4500rpm makes a brilliant howl...

Bargain of the century, was for the whole system, came to about £48 quid with all fittings etc

still cant believe you got full system for that. I had to get second hand middle and front for 30 notes (for mot purposes only and it sounds crap and blows at the front all the time)
nice looking mk2 though.

Interesting reading this - thanks for the feedback. So general consensus seems to be stick with the original system then  :undecided:
