Maybe I just dont put my foot down as much as you guys, but when using kickdown etc, or moving quickly in 'S' from standstill, I rarely get any wheel spin etc at all.

The only thing I don tlike about the Falkens is the lack of rim protectors.....

....In my book, you are driving properly. Wheelspin wastes time and wears out your tyres quicker. Smooth progressive use of the right foot is the key to faster take-offs.

Personally I think that rim protectors are a bit overrated and don't offer that much protection in the real world.

I have the Falken FK452's on mine and they are fantastic.

Only thing I would say against the Falkens is they do benefit from a bit of heat in them otherwise wheelspin is a bit too easy, but strangely this doesn't affect the cornering.  After 10k miles still got 5mm on the fronts and 7mm on the back - but I guess a lot of this comes down to driving style.

To be fair, Falkens do seem to be well regarded as a slightly cheaper option. If you want to save a few quid, then I wouldn't slate you for it.

The difference between a good tyre and a very good tyre (GY, Vred, PS2) under normal conditions is marginal. However, the really cheap rubber can be lethal.

I'm sticking with the premium brands just for my own peace of mind.

sorry to thread hijack, i was thinking of buying some PS2's, but am thinking that as my Contis from factory have lasted 18,500 miles, i wondering if i should stick with them!

Being in the trade we get some good offers on tyres, at the moment we are selling Pirrelli Pzero rosso's in your fitment at £96 each fitted. This is due to them having large trade discounts on at the moment. Suprisingly I have 4 of these on my MK5 GTi 

Maybe find a pirrelli dealer near you (go to a wholesaler with fitting bays not a backstreet setup) and you should find someone giving a good deal on these tyres.

Falkens, nangkangs, wanlis etc.... all ditchfinders from my experience. Khumo's are dirt cheap but dont last 5 mins. Uniroyal rainsport2 are fantastic in all weather and last ages, hard to find sometmes though. always my 1st choice of tyre.

Tyres are like underpants: everyone has a favourite and normally stick with them. No skid mark jokes please!

There's also a lot of flannel about tyres, my Revo'd MKVI GTI had Dunlops which people slate, just replaced the fronts at 12K miles to the new Michelin Pilot Sport 3, can't tell a blind bit of difference TBH and I don't hang about.....

Handling isnt much difference, but my god, tyre noise is much better then the dunlops.
