Driving with front fogs on
« on: 02 March 2010, 22:40 »
Just out of curiosity more than anything else, does anyone know if you can get done by the police for driving with your front fogs on when its not foggy? Only asking because it was really foggy when I left for work this morning and after it had cleared I forgot to turn my fogs off and got flashed by a police car going the other way.

Anybody care to shed some light (excuse the pun!)

Whilst on the subject of lights i've got some for sale in the classifieds if anyone is interested (prices are negotiable!)

Obviously, driving with fog lights on, when it's not foggy is illegal.

Fogs are for when it's foggy or SERIOUSLY reduced visibility.

£30 fine for driving with your fogs on when it's not foggy.

I like having my fog lights on because it makes the car look quite moody, although I'm not actually pathetic enough to have them on during the day

On some cars, they are labelled 'driving lights' and in Ireland you can get off the hook if you challenge it!

Unfortunately on mk3 golfs (and prob all VAGs) they are 'fog' lights.... with a squiggly fog picture below the switch.

They are handy for spotting potholes on the terrible irish roads :)

Illegal! I got stopped a night (not in the golf), had them on in the day for fog and forgot to switch them off, came on with the lights at night. Good job they just gave me a warning and didn't do any other checks as the mot was expired............

Thing is, with a VW you have to put the foglights on each time you turn on the lights, so the brain-dead owners choose to drive with them on when it's not foggy.
Perhaps if the fine was £500 it may stop people thinking it's 'cool'?

Although to be fair, fronts aren't as bad as rears.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.
