Boot lock woes...Help!
« on: 02 March 2010, 21:46 »
Ok I'm sure it's been covered before somewhere, anyway the new GTI in the house has an iffy boot lock. Central locking works the doors fine but not the boot. How is it connected please? Plus the barrel is well stiff but a bit of WD40 should cure that this weekend.

Ta in advance, Mark.

Remove the panel inside the tailgate and see if the rod has fallen off.

I'd give it a good spray with WD40 that should cure this one IMO

brief update, its not the rod in my car, just removed the panel to check. Doesnt look like it could be the rod if the key opens the boot.

There is a small reservoir with another rod connected to the lock mechanism. Hard to get a good look at it, its behind a panel.

Any ideas of the next step to check?

Cheers
Brian

From Haynes that unit appears to be a tailgate lock positioning unit

Didnt find anything on it with the search function

Would it be worth taking this out for a look?

Cheers

Did nothing and now the boot lock is opening with the central locking as it should   :undecided:

But now the car wont start as the batt is dead. Some start to the day!
