Time to sell the GTi. Realistic price required.
« on: 02 March 2010, 19:23 »
Hi guys,

I'm after a bit of help in selling my GTI. I'll be putting an advert up on piston heads and the Autotrader but am not too sure about the price. It's an 05 (55), Black, manual,  5 Door, 81k miles and full VW service history(next service in 10k miles). It's MOT'd for another 9 months and taxed up until the end of April.

I know the GTi's are fetching quite good money - but what should I advertise it for?

It has the Nokia/Bluetooth hands free
6 disc Auto changer + single disc insert and 8 speakers (optional?)
Auto dimming rear view mirror
Heated seats
Folding mirrors
cup holders
arm rest
Headlamp washers
tyre pressure warner (optional?)
duel climate control (optional?)

Barring some good cleaning and waxing, the car is in excellent condition, inside and out.

The only external modification has been the addition of some HID (5000k) lights. This has been purely for vision (not visual!) purposes, as I struggle with the standard light + night time driving combination. The only engine modification is a remap. But this will be removed, if the buyers requires.

thanks.

I've just bought an '05 manual 5 door with very similar spec off PistonHeads for a shade under £10K - the only difference being that it has done a grand total of 12,000 miles , has xenons and sat nav and had a new cam belt last year - I guess I just got lucky (and was very quick off the mark when the advert appeared !).

PH is a great place to sell, I've sold a Mk3 and a Mk4 Golf in the last couple of months within a couple of the days of the adverts appearing. With your car I'd start at £9750 (providing it's a three owner or less car)and see what happens...there could be some cam belt haggling to do if it's still on the original...

Thanks Moffspeed.

I've advertised for £9,300 - I think it's a fair price and there's very little margin for haggling. I might knock £100 off for the fact that the front two wheels require some attention. But thats all!

Parkers is free and good for a guide, or browse ebay / autotrader etc.

If I were you, I'd spend the extra £12 and buy a Premium Ad. You can post up more pics (9) and not be 8 pages down the list.

I have sold my last 3 cars on Pistonheads within 2 days at the full asking price. Take time to construct the ad. Heres one that I sold last week (gets picked up today) to give you an idea;
