In the/my family we do have different characters to say the least...

My brother recently was searching for a new car and was comparing the GTD with the GTI and was raving on about fuel and coloured labels with tax benefits and speedtickets and how clever it was when...blah...blah...blah......so quite normal he chose the GTD...(and  its competitor for him was the Audi A3 with R3 looks and grey Titanium alloys but a sensible 1.4 or 1.6 or whatever engine in bluemotionstyle)

When I was going for a new car 4 years ago (and now again 4 months ago) and saw both cars in the showroom I decided in a split second...so quite abnormal I chose the GTI... :smug:

Now that says it all................................discussions useless......comparisons are a bit of a struggle are they not... :lipsrsealed:

.......................at the end of the day he bought the Audi Bluemotion (with R sport looks)  now where is the fun in that....

I think the whole thing is dead simple. They're both great cars but it's simply a head versus heart argument. Head says GTD heart says GTi.
After years of going with my head and driving diesels I decided to go with the heart and got the GTi. I know it's costing me more money but every morning when I get in it and I get that "tingle" of excitement at driving it I know I've made the right decision.
I cannot imagine getting that from a GTD!!!!

+1

I get such a buzz from my GTI. I've driven loads of diesel cars and they just don't compete, great cars but nowhere near as good as a petrol car.

Oi Kev!

Those of you that have bought a GTD and are trying to defend it as a GTI equivalent are kidding yourselves. It is not and never will be a GTI.

^^^^ You've been superceded...

It's an excellent warm hatch, with excellent running costs, but diesel is (and always will be) a compromise.

Give it another 5-10 years though and this thread might be irrelevant....

Nooooo, how could you not quote me in your sig, that got me deep right there mate

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Wouldn't worry, i'm sure there will be another GTD thread that'll give me a gem soon.
MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?
