for company car drives, the GTD make so much more sense than a GTI.
The lease deal I have for 28000 per year for 3 years is only £381 per month. the car cost £26800.
An equivilant A3 is £436.

In my circumstances, the GTD is the 'best' car out there.....if money wasnt so important I have to admit I would have defo gone for a GTI..
Back to the original post, Monza look good, but, for me, theymust be 18's.
GTD White 5dr, ACC, Sunroof, winter pack, in transit.......

Of course circumstances predict what you want to buy and what is beneficial, I dont think anyone doubts that. My mum probably thinks her corsa is the best out there for her, and my little sisters Ford Ka is probably the best for her, it doesnt mean they are the best when you compare them to better cars just because they are right for them.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Without defining 'best' this convo is a waste of time. Everyones take on what 'best' means differs. Unless defined it is an opinion and therefore is neither right or wrong..... personally I couldnt really give a toss.

Best diesel hatch is the GTD, best petrol hatch is the GTI. Need anyone really take this any further, I dont think so...

Lets face it if you like your GTD.. then you are simply going to love a remapped GTI!! nearly an extra 100bhp and a lighter car = win win

Don't you mean more than 100hp? GTD = 170, Revo'd GTI = 275...

What Revo (or any remap company) say and what you actually get is a bit of a different story.

I've been reading a lot of this stuff (crap!!) about GTI against GTD. I part ex'd my Ed30 against a second hand GTD (would never buy new - crazy prices) approx 6 weeks ago. The change was right for me because I needed to slow down(!!) and have a car which is better for long journeys (in-laws live in France and I'm in Scotland).
Anyway, to the point. A GTD is NOT a GTI or even close, neither in outright performance or in handling. The very nature of the diesel dictates that it can't match a GTI in initial acceleration. Yes, once on the move it can accelerate quite rapidly, but by then, if from a standing start the GTI will be long gone. A MK5 GTI left me for dead last night and while initially I tried to keep up, I soon realised it was pointless, plus I was leaving such a large amount of black smoke in my wake, somebody probably called out the Fire Brigade!!
Handling wise, it is also lacking. The extra weight up front means it will understeer a lot earlier than the GTI and I know this just from the way I could attack roundabouts and corners in the Ed, which I can't do the same with the GTD. Even a mapped GTD may be quicker, but it will have the same problems in the corners.
Don't think I am slagging the GTD off as a crap car, because it isn't. The inside is a much nicer place to be than the Ed30. It will easily do over 50mpg and travel approx 200 miles further on a tank than the Ed could manage. Cheaper tax, insurance etc.
However, those of you that have bought a GTD and are trying to defend it as a GTI equivalent are kidding yourselves. It is not and never will be a GTI - fact. Be happy with your choice, you have bought a great car, you don't need to defend your decision if it was right for you.

Oi Kev!

Those of you that have bought a GTD and are trying to defend it as a GTI equivalent are kidding yourselves. It is not and never will be a GTI.

^^^^ You've been superceded...

It's an excellent warm hatch, with excellent running costs, but diesel is (and always will be) a compromise.

Give it another 5-10 years though and this thread might be irrelevant....
MKV GTI | Reflex Silver | 5-dr | Anthracite 17" | Manual | Highline MFD | Cruise | Revision 'D' DV | Dirty Pipes |

The GTD is like a blow up doll. The GTI is like a proper woman. Sure the doll might last longer, and the woman might have higher running costs, but which would you rather have?

Its getting intresting on here now, but I have to say the GTD is a hot hatch, and so is the GTI 2 brilliant cars. I have fell in love the GTD and it does sute my needs perfectly. Yes its not as pin sharp as the GTI but i do think we are splitting hairs between the 2 cars. The GTD is fast and i'm saying its faster than what VW are saying!!
