Looking for help and advice regarding 20v turbo engine
« on: 27 February 2010, 19:08 »
Good day to you all.

This is my 1st post here so if this is in the worng place, please move to where needed.

I don't own a gold my self, but I have been asked to help with a friends engine conversion.

I have not been given meny details of the engine so please do bear with me.

All I have been told is the engine is from an T reg mk4 golf and is a 1.8l 4cly 20v turbo.

I don't yet know the engine code.

My friend wants to scrap all the stock engine loom / wiring and fit an aftermaket ECU.

I have been told that the engine as stock uses a fly-by-wire thottle, so that will need to be replaced with a cable thottle.
Will need to add an idle control valve, as the idle was controled by the fly-by-wire thottle.

Due to the age of the car I would guess that the uses full sequential fuel injection, and sequential coil on plug (cop).

If that is right will need engine speed / ref from both the crank and cam.

As VW uses bosch systems most of the time I would guess that the crank trigger pattern is the standard bosch 60-2 with TDC being 114deg before the pickup sensor.

But I have no idea about the cam pickup or the trigger pattern.

So really what I need to know at this point is the following:

Type of injectors, GDI, manifold mounted, ect.
Injector Make:
Injector Model:
Injector Flow Rate:

Type of coils, Coil Pack, COP, ect.
Coil Make:
Coil Model:

Thanks for your time.

Best Regards.

the engine code should be AGU and if so it has cable throttle anyway, ask for the other questions not to sure, not had much of a play with mine yet.

Thanks for eveyones replys so far.

If we go down the route that the engine is a AGU, can anyone give me any of the above details that I am after.

Looking on this and other forums plus google it seems that the AGU 1.8 20v Turbo uses COPs, and High-Z Injectors.

COPs: VW Part number "06B 905 115" 4-Pin Type.

Injectors: Bosch "0 280 150 464" 258cc/min @ 3bar (12 Ohm, High-Z).

Crank Sensor / Engine Speed Sensor: Variable Reluctor (VR) Sensor.

Cam Sensor: Hall Sensor.

Can anyone confirm any of this for me please.

Thanks for your time.

Best Regards.

Best bet to check is ring R-tech

http://www.r-techpower.co.uk/index.php

The TB should be a cable one, however there where two models for the AGU, one which is a cable version, but it also has additional motor mechanism ontop of alignment which allows it to have cruise control, so his might be that type.

If your friend is after an aftermarket ECU I know KMS are hugely popular as they do special kits that plug directly to the standard equipment due to adapter plugs, worth contacting them:

Here's an example of their 16v kit, they do a 20v kits:

Comes with FBR and better pump etc...

Audi TT - K04 TFSI Hybrid - 325BHP
VW Golf - k03 AGU - 200BHP

1.8T AGU..
