DSG Lurch and Dealers
« on: 26 February 2010, 12:01 »
My dsg edition 30 has started to lurch a bit when moving off from a standstill. The car has a revo remap and revo dsg map and the car is currently in the dealers. They have noticed its remapped and are currently waiting to hear from vw about the dsg problem, with them knowing its remapped do you think it is unlikely that i will get the problem sorted through warranty?

Has anyone else been in this situation? i think its the classic mechatronic unit problem with the dsg. If it doesnt go through warranty and i have to pay for it myself anyone know how much it is likely to cost?

im in pretty much the same situation as you

revo 2+ and stage 2 dsg software - my dsg box has been lurchy in 1st and reverse for the past 6 months, car is 2 years old and 35k miles

took it to stealers last november and they confirmed mech unit is knackered

unfortunately they will not replace it under warranty due to my modifications...
i complained to vw hq and they also confirmed they would not do it under warranty.

replacement mech unit is c£1100 + fitting

if your dealer is nice then they might do it under warranty or offer to split the cost - unfortunately dovercourt battersea (avoid like the plague) would do neither!

stevep had his mech unit replaced first time under warranty but i believe it went again after less than 10k miles - so i am very reluctant to pay for it myself.

i can live with it as i use mine as a weekend toy, when i come to sell it early next year i will remove all the mods and put it back to standard and trade it in

let the lucky new owner deal with it

i always buy new so its never concerned me, when I come to trade it in for a new car the garage who sell it on will have to offer a warranty on it so they will be covered.

as i said the car still drives perfectly well i even ran a 13.26 at santa pod the other week, its just in 1st and reverse its dodge, and if you do a dsg recalibration via vagcom it fixes the gearbox for a few days before it starts to go jerky again, handy for when you trade it in

in the usa vw have covered all faulty dsg gearboxes irespective of mods and even offered an extended warranty where as in the uk they have done nothing despite lots of problems. so why should i pay a couple of thousand to fix it, i will probably buy another golf or scirocco next so vw will end up paying for the dsg to be fixed

when you buy a second hand car how do you know its not been modified or used as a track slag or thrashed everywhere even if it has a got a full service history its the risk you take

and after reading recent topics on here of people buying second hand cars from vw themselves :

- stolen car from a vw garage
- car caught fire just a few hours after picked up from vw
- and the mk6gti ex-write off which vw sold on second hand

i think a jurky gearbox is the least thing to worry about

Not cool dude, you shouldnt try to justify it.
Just cos some other people get away with selling a wonky car on the sly doesn't mean that gives you a right to.

You knew you were voiding the warranty when you modded the box.

Mine is only lurching on the odd occasion. So if they do refuse to do it under warranty i think i can live with it doing it every now and again. I also wouldnt have a problem paying the £1100 if the problem never returned but if it did

my dsg issues are the same as those who have not modified the box.. its not cool but then again i dont feel vw customer service is cool either.. each to their own but id rather spend the 2k towards a new car than to replace a gear box on one im probably gonna sell in next 12 months, as I said it still drives and probably smoother than a few of the manual drivers out there
